TOP TEN LAST MINUTE ITEMS

1. Wash, Dry, Iron and lay all the kit out for camp, last minute shouting and arguing this should have been done ages ago never makes for the best family departure.

2. Double check the kit list from this site and mark every item off, any queries ask them on this site in the ask questions section.

3. If your child requires medication on camp, make sure you have a weeks supply labeled and bagged with all the details needed for our medical staff. Remind them it must be handed in.

4. Have you got a suitable bag for their kit, you might be disappointed if you send your best luggage collection with them to camp. A very strong large holdall is best. Carrier bags are no good and lots of small bags will lead to complications. Make sure the bag is labeled clearly with cadets names, detachment.

5. Pocket money needs to be decided in advance, don't make it a last minute issue and argument, it spoils the departure. Its a good time to negotiate a car wash and grass cut in return for camp money. It helps considerably to give small denominations such as £5 notes and some pounds coins. A £50 note mean the sectors have to change it. Put it in a clearly labeled envelope ready to hand in and give a small amount in their hand on the day for the coach stops.

6. Its a long coach trip and a long car journey if you miss the coach, CHECK and DOUBLE check departure times from this site. Have you got sick bags, travel sickness pills, drink, and pack lunch organised. The traffic to Scotland could be bad so do not over do morning drinks. Some Cadets will feel nervous on the departure morning, but they must eat something so now the time to plan their favourite breakfast. Set more than 1 alarm clock.

7. Safety is our first concern and we have a massive back up of safety staff, safety procedures, health & safety plans etc. But please also remind your son / daughter of the need to be careful at the service areas, always use seat belts on coaches and during camp be sensible and abide by the safety rules at all times. In their free time be sensible also in the NAFFI and around the camp out of training hours.

8. Personal hygiene is important, make sure your son / daughter knows they need to wash every day, morning and night including teeth. They will be expected to clean and look after their accommodation as well as their personal kit. A few lessons if needed in folding and ironing will not go a miss.

9. There are always more cadets wanting to get into a higher training group than their are places that is FACT, we cannot change this. This is down to our Health & Safety requirements in group numbers and adult to cadet ratio's. Cadet will always be disappointed if they do not get in the group they want to be in. This is part of life and the learning curve. Help them to understand this.

10. There is no need to worry, we do all that for you. However if you have an emergency you can contact the camp on the number shown on this site. If you have a concern in the week about your son / daughter and you FEEL you NEED to speak to someone do not worry we do not bite, you can ring. If it is something minor like is there a photo of my son etc, you can e mail presshwacf@gmail.com or ask a question on this site.

LAST MINUTE CAMP INFO FOR PARENTS.

Please check the bus timings.
Make sure your child has all his kit, it should be clearly labeled with his full name.
There is a kit list from county on the blogg http://hwcamp2010.blogspot.com/2010/07/county-kit-list.html
Make sure any medication is clearly labeled with all the information required.
Are YOU away over camp, does your child have the contact number and is it correct still from when you filled the camp form in.
Remind your child to hand in money to the camp bank.
Are you expecting a phone call from your child over camp, if so make sure they know.
Does your child travel well, if not speak to the IC coach, sitting nearer the front helps.
It will be a long trip up to Scotland at good breakfast may help, or a sensible pack lunch, not too much drink in the morning.
For younger cadets departing for a week maybe an event, so keep a level head, get the kisses done before you leave the house, its not cool with their mates by the coach and you maybe disappointed. If you act strange, worried, upset or concern they will feel uncomfortable, so act normal, don't make a big issue on the day.
A well packed and prepared cadet is a happy one, do not leave it all to the last minute.
